EngineeringHow we engineer and build

Start with the load,
not the material.

From the first load case to the final inspection, we engineer and build each component around the forces it must carry.

01The load

Carbon is not
automatically better.

The right structure comes from knowing the forces, where they travel and where material is needed. We use structural analysis to find the load path, then engineer the component around it. Fibre where the load demands it. Nowhere else.

FEA is a design tool,
not a checking tool.

Analysis tells us where material goes and where the design has to change. We do not use it to make a finished design look acceptable. That is the difference between an engineering house and a fabrication shop.

02Your geometry

We start from your CAD,
not a sketch of it.

We work directly in your 3D CAD environment, so nothing is lost between design intent and the manufactured component. Interfaces, landings and clearances are resolved in the same model the boat is being built from.

01Analysis

  • Finite Element Analysis
  • Structural load analysis
  • Load-path optimisation

02Design and development

  • 3D CAD integration
  • CAD/CAM preparation
  • Structural component design
  • Prototype and sample development

03Handover and installation

  • Safe Working Load documentation
  • Engineering data packages
  • Fit jigs, templates and installation drawings

03Manufacture

Precision is a process,
not a final inspection.

Good composite manufacturing does not happen because someone checks the finished part carefully. It happens because the process is controlled from the beginning. We build structural components in prepreg carbon under controlled cure, with experienced composite craftsmen and documented processes.

03.1

Prepreg carbon, controlled cure.

Controlled temperature and consolidation give the consistency that demanding structures require, part after part.

03.2

Experienced craftsmanship.

A generation of Southern Spars experience works on this floor.

04Verification

Trust it because
you can check it.

The engineering shows it.
The process supports it.

The component is inspectable.

04.1

FEA.

Structural behaviour analysed against defined load cases.

04.2

NDT ultrasound inspection.

Internal defects identified without compromising the component.

04.3

Load documentation.

Structural calculations, load-path information and Safe Working Load documentation.

04.4

Manufacturing records.

Controlled processes provide traceability through manufacture, and the records are delivered with the component.

04.5

Who we build with.

A component is only as good as what goes into it. We work with Smart Rigging, Stark CNC, Carbide CNC, Aerontec, AMT, Hankuk Carbon and Balco.
