Version 1.0, October 2026. Page address: fcdspars.com/technical-disclaimer/
Why this page exists
A spar is a structural component. If it is wrongly specified, people can be hurt and vessels can be lost. We publish technical information so that you can understand how we work, not so that you can specify from it. This page says exactly what that information is and is not.
Technical information on this site is illustrative
This site contains dimensions, dimensional ranges, material and process descriptions, cure conditions, diagrams, renders, 3D models, and descriptions of analysis and testing methods. All of it is published for general information only.
- It is not a specification. Figures and ranges describe the kind of work we do. They do not describe what we will supply to you, or what any particular spar we have built can do.
- It is not engineering advice. Nothing here is a recommendation for your vessel, rig or application.
- It is not a warranty. We do not promise that any spar will match a figure, range, image or description shown on this site.
- It is not a substitute for project-specific engineering. Loads, geometry, materials, safety factors and classification requirements differ for every vessel.
Every spar is engineered for one vessel
We design each spar for a specific vessel, rig and sailing programme, using load cases agreed with the customer and their designer. The properties of a finished spar are those recorded in the engineering documentation issued for that project, and nothing else.
Descriptions of delivered work show what was built for one customer under one set of requirements. They do not indicate what is suitable for another vessel.
Renders, models and images
Renders, 3D models and diagrams are visual aids. They are simplified, they are not to scale unless we say so, and they must not be measured, scaled or used as a basis for design or manufacture. Photographs show specific projects and may show fittings or details that do not form part of our supply.
Analysis, testing and process descriptions
Where we describe finite element analysis, structural calculations, non-destructive testing, safe working loads or cure processes, we are describing our general methods. The methods, test regime and documentation that apply to a project are those set out in the written agreement and engineering documents for that project.
Do not rely on this site to make engineering or purchasing decisions
You must not use information on this site to specify, design, select, purchase, install, load, modify or repair any spar or structural component. If you are a naval architect, engineer, boatyard or owner and need figures you can rely on, contact us. We will provide them in writing, for your project, under an agreement.
Accuracy and changes
We take care over what we publish, but our products, materials and processes develop continuously, and the site may contain errors or be out of date. We may change technical content at any time without notice.
Our liability
As far as the law allows, we accept no liability for loss or damage arising from reliance on technical information published on this site. Nothing in this disclaimer limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited. This includes liability for fraud or gross negligence, liability for death or personal injury that the law does not allow us to exclude, and liability under consumer protection or product liability law that applies to you. Nothing in it changes the terms of a written agreement under which we supply a product or service.
This disclaimer forms part of our Terms of Use.
